Hokkaido freeride snowboarding & skiing trip

We have designed this trip to cover the most famous ski areas in Hokkaido. It’s a mix of lift access and backcountry touring depending on the weather and group mood. Hokkaido area offers great snow conditions, excellent tree runs, volcano runs with great alpine terrain. Pillows and massive snow mushrooms on the trees will blow your mind!

We use our detailed questionnaire to find out what you dream of to match you with the right group and do the right activities. E.G. if you prefer to stay in the ski area or do more ski touring.

Accommodation & transport

Accommodation will be provided in Japanese style hotels like Ryokan, located in the middle of great mountain terrain.  Based on a daily forecast we travel by 4x4 van directly where the best snow conditions are.

Length & itinerary

The trip length is 10 days in total, including one rest day. We spend four days in Furano, two days in the Asahidake area, three days in the Niseko area and one day by skiing in Sapporo ski resorts.

We start in Furano which offers the best of all Hokkaido treasures - the driest powder, great alpine & super fun tree runs. Then we move to the Asahidake area to ride some volcanoes or experience the unlimited terrain around. We can't forget about the Niseko area as this place makes Japan skiing famous for a reason.

We can hike or choose one of the many ski resorts in the area. Our final stop will be in Sapporo, which offers great free runs with perfect snow conditions and terrain. Bonus is beautiful sea & mountain views.

trip activities

In the Niseko area, we'd like to hike Mt. Yotei which is the local dominant. In the Asahidake area, we aim to reach the top of Mt. Asahidake, which is the highest mountain in Hokkaido and is still an active volcano! To get the most of it we will plan our activities according to the weather as this is crucial in local stormy conditions. We will enjoy the best powder skiing & snowboarding as well as Japanese hospitality, culture, and cuisine.

We are happy to introduce split-boarding or ski touring to everyone. It is one of the greatest things you can do in the mountains.

Prerequisites for the trip are:

  • Intermediate to advanced ski/snowboard ability (blue/red/black/diamond runs)

  • Moderate fitness (ability to walk up for 2 - 4 hours - necessity for real backcountry riding)

  • Eagerness for adventure

  • Previous ski touring experience is a great plus (but we can teach you)

  • Powder skiing experience is a plus

Price & Group Size

The standard scheme is 6 people per guide, for approx. 2500 €/person. The price includes accommodation, airport pick up, guide and 4-day ski pass in the desired area. The price does not include lunch and dinner, alcohol or additional beverages, flights to Japan, travel insurance and gear rental.
